Regional Intervention Group on Alcohol and Health (GIRAS) qualifies in CAD

28/02/2025

An event organised by the Regional Intervention Group on Alcohol and Health (GIRAS), which was set up in 2016 as a result of a challenge issued by the Alentejo Central CRI to all community development agents in the region, took place in Évora on February 10.

Firstly, Vasco Calado, a researcher from ICAD's Statistics and Research Unit, presented data on the region from the various studies carried out. He also took the opportunity to provide some food for thought on the nature of the reality he had observed.

In the second session, Ana Luísa, an educational psychologist at CRI Alentejo Central, explained the extent of the problem and possible future courses of action, based on preliminary data from the Regional Consumption Observatory, a project set up in 2016 by this Integrated Response Centre, which monitors the behaviour of 7th, 9th, 10th and 12th grade students in Alentejo schools.

The Regional Intervention Group on Alcohol and Health aims to mitigate CAD-related problems in the region. It includes more than 50 public and private bodies from the fields of education, law enforcement, social services, health, local government and higher education, among others, which have agreed to and allocated commitments within their area of activity, presented at this event, and which the CRI organises and structures into a regional intervention strategy.
