Video games, microtransactions and gamification processes.
The study "Video Games, Microtransactions and Gamblification Processes" is available on ICAD, I.P.'s institutional website. Its aim was to map the relationships between video games, the microtransactions that can be made in them and areas of possible overlap with gambling.
This study, authored by Rui Tinoco, a clinical psychologist from the Research, Monitoring and Communication Department, and aimed at health and education professionals, provides an overview of the area of video games and microtransactions, with a particular focus on loot boxes.
The rapid development of monetisation devices in video games has led to greater concern about their consequences for vulnerable populations such as young people, university students and whales. This work seeks to frame these issues with increasing social relevance.
