ICAD releases results of the European Online Drug Survey - Portugal 2024

17/12/2025

The Institute for Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies (ICAD)has published the national edition of the European Online Survey on Drugs - Portugal 2024, reinforcing its role as a reference body in monitoring and researching psychoactive substance consumption patterns.

This study, carried out in partnership with the European Union Agency on Drugs (EUDA), is applied every three years and is one of the sources that support the design of public policies and interventions based on scientific evidence.

In the 2024 edition, around 66,000 drug users from 35 countries took part, including 1,098 from Portugal. ICAD ensured the national dissemination of the questionnaire through its digital platforms and social networks, as well as liaising with governmental and non-governmental partners, guaranteeing data collection in line with European standards.

The results show that cannabis continues to be the most consumed illicit drug in Portugal, with patterns of frequent use and associated polyconsumption. Data on MDMA, cocaine, ketamine, New Psychoactive Substances and CBD/low THC products also stand out, allowing for a detailed analysis of contexts, motivations and forms of acquisition. These indicators are fundamental to guiding prevention, risk reduction and treatment strategies, areas in which ICAD plays a central role.
